Disney Mood

Over spring break I hopped on a flight to sunny Orlando Florida with my family for a fun filled week at Walt Disney World. I've been to 11  times, and yeah that number is kind of obscene but I absolutely love going!! At the age of 20 going on 21 I never feel like an adult when I;m there, just a big version of little Princess Miriam. I will be the first to say that I am  Disney Girl! I was raised on the movies and the tv channel. Any way there is a point to this I promise. In my Product and Utilization of Inst Technology class the past two weeks we have done activities that we plan the content and lesson out and plug it into say Wordquest or like this week, excel. For both lessons, as an English teacher, I revolved my lesson content around literature. I had my students read the original fairy tales  Snow White, Rapunzel (The Brothers Grimm) The Little Mermaid (Hans Christian Andersen), research their authors and then do some diving into their Disney adaptation counterparts which included researching Walt Disney, looking up the film pages on imbd.com as well as watching short clips from each film. At the end the students would write a paper on why they think these stories were adapted, major changes they noticed, and their opinion on whether the story should have been left alone. I think this is a good question to ask because some students may not know that these fairy tales are not strictly Disney stories and as literature students it would be interesting for them to play investigator and see which they enjoy better. I think I may be using this activity in my future classroom!
